Caring for Your Jewellery
Fashion jewellery keeps its shine far longer with a little care. A few simple habits make all the difference.
Last on, first off
Put your jewellery on after perfume, deodorant, hairspray and lotion have dried, and take it off before you undress. Cosmetics and sprays are the fastest way to dull a gold-toned finish.
Keep it away from water
Remove every piece before bathing, swimming, washing up or exercising. Water and sweat are what wear the finish down over time.
Wipe after wearing
A quick wipe with a soft, dry cloth removes the sweat and oils picked up during the day. Never use chemical jewellery dips, toothpaste or ultrasonic cleaners — they will strip the finish.
Store dry and separate
Keep each piece in its own pouch or a lined box, somewhere dry. Loose in a drawer, pieces scratch each other; in a humid bathroom, the finish goes faster.
Mind the stones
Stones are set into the design, so avoid knocking pieces against hard surfaces and don't tug at strings or hooks. Check the settings now and then.
Give it a rest
Rotating what you wear makes everything last longer. Fashion jewellery is meant to be enjoyed and replaced in time, not stored away unworn.
